HOUSTON — A high school volleyball coach was behind bars Friday morning after being accused of having an improper relationship with two teenage students.
According to court documents, Osvaldo Flores, 23, is charged with improper relationship with a student, sexual performance by a child, and two counts of sexual assault of a child. His total bond on the four charges was set at $315,000.
Investigators said Flores turned himself in and admitted what happened.
Flores worked at YES Prep Southwest Secondary School but has since been fired.
Flores appeared in probable cause court Thursday night. Prosecutors said Flores inappropriately touched two students at the school. He also forced one of the girls to perform oral sex.
Court documents said these alleged sexual assaults happened in September and October of last year.
“Given these facts and allegations, I do have serious concerns about community safety and complainants’ safety,” the prosecutor told the judge in court.
YES Prep also shared a statement about these allegations, saying the volleyball coach was immediately placed on leave then fired after an investigation.
They also said the school has proactively communicated with families of students on the volleyball team.
“In October 2023, YES Prep received a complaint about inappropriate behavior involving a coach and a student from our Southwest Secondary school. Per protocol, we immediately placed the coach on leave and subsequently ended his employment after conducting a thorough investigation. The school proactively communicated with the families of the students on the volleyball team. We also reported the case immediately to the Houston police as well as the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for further investigation.
“YES Prep expects all staff to uphold the highest standard of professionalism in all communication and interactions with students. We are committed to ensuring that all students are in a safe and secure environment, and we take quick and strict action when this commitment is compromised.”
