HOUSTON - A Woodlands woman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison for trying to hire a hitman to kill her ex husband during their divorce last year.

Sosa was charged with criminal solicitation of murder in July 2015. She and her ex husband, Ramon Sosa, owned The Woodlands Boxing Fitness Gym in Spring. Friends say dividing the business during the divorce became a bitter fight for the couple.

An affidavit showed Maria, through a mutual acquaintance, met with an undercover officer she believed was a hitman. The affidavit says that Maria paid $500 and some men's jewelry as a down payment for the man to kill her husband, then she agreed to give another $2,000 and her husband's truck after the job was complete.

According to the document, the undercover agent asked if Maria just wanted her husband beat up.

"No. I want him dead," Maria said, according to the affidavit.
