HOUSTON — Houston police have identified a woman whose body was found in a shallow grave in southeast Houston and arrested her ex-boyfriend on a murder charge.
Court documents obtained by KHOU 11 News reveal the chilling evidence that led homicide detectives to 31-year-old Derek Fischer. He's charged with murder and tampering with a corpse in the shooting death of 45-year-old Jennifer Ramirez, according to HPD.
The victim's body was found on April 22 wrapped in a shower curtain and tarp and buried near the apartment complex on Fuqua near the Gulf Freeway, where Fischer had lived.
The case was first brought to the attention of the Houston Police Department last month by an apartment complex employee who told them she found a disturbing note in Fischer's apartment. The handwritten note claimed Fischer had raped a 5-year-old child and also mentioned the victim's name, saying Jennifer Ramirez will "come back to life," according to court documents.
After Fischer was evicted from the complex, the employee said she also noticed what appeared to be blood in his apartment. HPD investigators later confirmed that a large stain on a closet floor was human blood.
A neighbor gave investigators a recording of a man who was yelling "I'll murder you" and "I'll kill you" that she said came from Fischer's apartment before he moved out.
A homicide detective noticed a large gap in the fence near Fischer's apartment and searched along the nearby bayou. He spotted a blue tarp sticking partially out of the ground and realized it was a shallow grave. Ramirez's body was found buried there.
Detectives later located surveillance video showing Ramirez moving out of Fischer's apartment on March 18. That's believed the be the last time anyone saw her alive.
