Woman followed home, shot in face in southeast Houston, HPD says

The woman was returning home from shopping with her mother-in-law when she was shot, police said. They don't believe robbery was the motive.

HOUSTON — A woman was followed home and shot in the face in southeast Houston late Monday, but police still don't know why she was targeted.

The woman in her 20s and her mother-in-law returned from a trip to their neighborhood market and pulled into their driveway on Thrush Drive near Croswell Street around 11:30 p.m.

“They didn’t see until they pulled into the driveway that a vehicle had followed them from an unknown point," HPD Lt. J.P. Horelica said.

At least one man got out of the car that followed them and fired one shot through the window of the pickup truck, according to the Houston Police Department.

The victim was able to make it to a neighbor's house and they called 911. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors said she was stable. Her mother-in-law, who was in the passenger's seat, was not injured.

Investigators don’t believe this was a robbery attempt since nothing was taken, so they're still working on a motive.

Word spread quickly through the neighborhood

“My neighbor said 'Somebody got shot.' I said 'When?' .. I didn’t even know it," Sandra Carrier told us. "Cause don’t nothing happen like that around here – don’t nothing happen like that around here -- it’s always quiet around here."

“And I asked if she was OK and going to be able to recover," a woman who didn't want to be identified said. "That was my main concern."

Right now, there’s no description of the suspects seen in a dark-colored car. HPD is asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
