HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man has been charged in Wednesday's shooting death of a woman near Clear Lake, according to Houston police.
Ruben Venavides, Jr., 39, was detained at the scene and later charged with murder.
It happened following an altercation at an apartment complex on Bay Area Boulevard near Space Center Houston, between the Webster and Clear Lake areas.
Houston police said a 38-year-old woman was found dead around 3 p.m. Her name hasn't been released.
Investigators said they got an anonymous 911 call that led them to the apartment complex. When officers arrived, they knocked on the door and then made entry.
Once inside, they found the victim shot at least one time in the torso.
The suspect was also inside the apartment. He was detained and taken downtown for questioning.
Authorities said the couple has a history of verbal and physical abuse. They said they had been called to the apartment at least once before.
The couple has four children ranging in age from elementary school to their 20s. No one else was in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
Investigators said they interviewed family members and are trying to find more witnesses.
