WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas — A suspect was arrested on kidnapping charges after trying to flee from police in a van and then on foot before officers subdued him with a taser.
Police were called at about 9:47 a.m. Friday by a woman who reported the suspect had been holding her hostage against her will for the past four days, officials said. She said she was able to escape a white Dodge Caravan in a Walmart parking lot.
Officers from White Settlement and Westworth Village responded to the call, police said, and a Westworth Village officer reported seeing the van flee at a high speed through a Lowes parking lot off Highway 183.
Dashcam footage shows the reported suspect fleeing in the white van before crashing into another car while running a red light. The suspect then gets out of the vehicle and tries to run away before eventually being arrested.
The suspect, 52-year-old Reginald Jameson, was charged with kidnapping, strangulation, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, evading arrest on foot, failure to stop and render aid, and had a felony parole violation for domestic abuse out of the state of Wisconsin.
Jameson was taken to the Tarrant County Jail.
One occupant involved in the crash reported minor injuries treated at the scene, police said.
“I am extremely proud of the heroic actions by our police team, and we are thankful that this woman was able to be rescued by officers safely,” said White Settlement Chief of Police Christopher Cook in a statement. “This case demonstrates the dangers that exist when officers face violent felons who refuse to give up and flee without any regard to our communities and officers. We are grateful that no innocent people or officers were seriously injured based upon the dangerous driving actions by this offender and that this victim of the kidnapping will be okay. We are also thankful for the outstanding partnership between our city, Westworth Village and Fort Worth.”
