Houston concert venue forced to closed early after shooting incident outside, police say

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said the victim was in a smoking area outside when a person in a car that was northbound on N. Main fired several shots.

HOUSTON — A man was shot in a drive-by shooting outside White Oak Music Hall Wednesday night, according to the Houston Police Department.

We still don't know if the man shot was targeted or just an innocent bystander but police say someone was thrown out before the shooting happened.

It happened around 9 p.m. at the concert hall on N. Main Street near the North Freeway.

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said the victim was in a smoking area outside when a person in a car that was northbound on N. Main fired several shots. The victim was struck at least one time. They were taken to an area hospital and are expected to survive.

According to Crowson, the music venue's management said a little while before the shooting, at least one man was thrown out and they think he was upset and could have been the one who drove by and opened fire.

“Several shots were fired out of that car,” Crowson said. “At least one struck the victim in the lower extremities. I'd say he's been transported to the hospital in stable condition.”

At the time of the shooting, three different shows were going on at the venue.

Crowson said White Oak Music Hall management decided to close for the night after the shooting.

Police said they don't think anyone else was struck.

This is a popular music venue here in Houston. There are no concerts scheduled for Thursday evening but there is one set for Friday.
