WATCH: HPD helicopter chases suspect

HOUSTON - An HPD chase came to a dramatic end Tuesday afternoon and two burglary suspects were arrested.

HOUSTON - An HPD chase came to a dramatic end Tuesday afternoon and two burglary suspects were arrested.

According to police, they were called to a home on Melwood Street at about 1 p.m. The caller told officers that the home was being burgled.

Sarah and Rik Dalton own the home and were at work at the time.

“We just got an alert that something was going on,” explained Sarah Dalton. “So, we asked our neighbor to check on the property while we hurried home from work.”

Police say when they showed up, the suspects got spooked.

“Luckily we got there fast enough so they were able to get into the house and they saw us and they took off in a car and that’s when the pursuit happened.”

What started as a car chase turned into a foot chase off Hardy Road. Police chased one suspect into a field and when clipping him with a patrol SUV didn’t work, one of the officers on the helicopter jumped out and tackled him.

The second suspect was arrested a short time later in a nearby neighborhood.

KHOU showed the Daltons the dramatic video of the chase.

“It was awesome,” said Sarah. “I mean, we weren’t here and there were no cops here. We didn't know what was going on. So it's interesting to see how much activity was going on and we didn't know about it!”

The Daltons say the burglars did get into their home and although they didn’t get anything, they severely damaged four of their doors and tore the inside of their home up, including slicing through one of their new mattresses.

Even so, after seeing how quickly the police responded the Daltons joked they owe HPD a favor, “They will get a beer!” laughed Rik Dalton. “They will get a beer!”

A police cruiser was also damaged in the chase but police say everyone is ok. So far, no word on the suspect’s identities.
