HOUSTON — Houston police are searching for the man who they said shot four people earlier this month after security kicked him out of a club for fighting.
Luis Gerardo Rios, 24, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault-serious bodily injury, aggravated assault of a security officer and aggravated assault of a peace officer.
Editor's note: The above video aired before Rios was identified as the suspect.
The March 2 shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. on Washington Avenue between Reinerman Street and Sandman Street.
The club's security and off-duty Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies asked two men to leave the club after they got into a fight. Police said both men started arguing with the security officers and deputies outside as they tried to get back inside.
One of the men got into a black Chevrolet SUV and started shooting at people outside the club, including security. Four men, including security officers, were shot but they all survived.
"The fact that they would shoot indiscriminately at a club crowded with people just because they were asked to leave, whether they were intoxicated or whatever, shows that they really have very little regard for the safety of the people around them," HPD Assistant Chief Wyatt Martin said after the shooting.
The HCSO deputies did not return fire because so many people were in the area, according to HPD.
After interviewing witnesses and investigating the shooting further, HPD identified Rios as the gunman but he hasn't been arrested.
Anyone with information on Rios or this case is urged to contact the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division at 713-308-8800 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
