Employee of 'family-friendly' fitness center in Katy arrested on indecency with a child charge

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said Joseph Brvenik, 17, was working at Villasport Athletic Club and Spa in Cinco Ranch when the alleged assault happened.

KATY, Texas — An employee of a gym and spa in Katy has been arrested on a charge of indecency with a child, the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said.

The alleged assault happened at the Villa Sport Athletic Club and Spa on Gaston Road in the Cinco Ranch area.

Joseph Brvenik, 17, was arrested following an investigation and later released on a $75,000.

In a Facebook post on Monday, FBCSO said the investigation began on April 13 and Brvenik was arrested on April 29.

A Villa Sport member shared a letter she received from management on Sunday that said an employee first expressed concern about "possible employee misconduct involving a toddler in our care" on March 21. The gym said that they reviewed surveillance video and interviewed employees and determined that "no misconduct occurred."

After no action was taken, an employee shared his concerns with the sheriff's office and they contacted Villa Sport on April 18. The letter to members said they are cooperating with the investigation.

"In the meantime, the employee has now taken to social media and has made numerous false accusations about the incident and our investigation," the letter said. "... Please know that your children are safe in Villa Kids. Their well-being has always been our top priority, and that commitment will never change."

We spoke with the employee who raised a red flag but he didn't want to go on camera. He said he's been "indefinitely suspended" by Villa Sport.

We called the gym for comment and they gave us another number to call but we haven't heard back.

Lauren Valluzzi, the member who shared the letter, said she plans to continue going there but hopes the incident sparks change.

"I felt positive that they addressed it," Valluzzi said. "I don't have kids here, so, I like the fact that they videotape everything so that parents can feel positive that their kids are being taken care of."

Villa Sport Athletic Club and Spa bills itself as an athletic club where "family-friendly fitness thrives." They have several activities and amenities geared toward families.

The sheriff's office is advising other parents who may have concerns to call them.

"If there are any parents/members who would like to make a related report or who have concerns they are asked to reach out to FBCSO Investigations at 281-341-4686," FBCSO told us in a statement.
