MCSO: Man shot, killed by deputy after refusing to leave motel near The Woodlands

Deputies said they responded to the motel three times because the man refused to leave.

SPRING, Texas — A man was shot and killed by a Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputy on Thursday at a motel near The Woodlands.

The man's identity hasn't been revealed.

It happened around 6 p.m. at a motel off I-45 near Sawdust Road.

According to investigators, deputies were responding to a third call from the hotel about the same man they wanted to leave. MCSO officials said the first time, they issued a warning to the man and the second time they gave him a criminal trespassing citation.

Officials said the man was staying at the motel and they're not sure why he was being asked to leave.

When deputies showed up the third time, they attempted to take the man into custody, but he fought back. They said they used a Taser but it wasn't effective. Investigators said the man pulled out the Taser prongs and started to run.

Two deputies gave chase, and according to officials, after a brief foot chase, the man turned around with a gun.

That's when they said one of the deputies opened fire, shooting the man multiple times. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
