2 kids accused of leading Texas deputies on chase in car stolen from McDonald's

The victim told the sheriff's office that she went inside McDonald's to get a DoorDash order, when two suspects got into her vehicle and drove away.

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas — Chambers County deputies apprehended two minors from Louisiana following a chase involving a car stolen from a victim at a McDonald's in Winnie. 

It happened on January 7, 2023, shortly before 8:30 p.m. The Chambers County Sheriff's Office received a call about a vehicle that had been stolen from a Mcdonald's.

The victim told the sheriff's office that she went inside the restaurant to get a DoorDash order when two suspects got into her car. She claimed the suspects drove away going westbound on Interstate 10 towards Houston, according to a Chamber County Sheriff's Office release. 

A deputy drove to Interstate 10, saw the stolen vehicle, and tried to stop it. The driver refused to stop and a chase began.

The chase went into the City of Mont Belvieu, according to the release.

At some point during the chase, the vehicle suddenly stopped, and two people got out and ran away. Deputies were able to catch them. 

Deputies later learned the driver was a 16-year-old and the passenger was a 12-year-old. Both suspects are from Louisiana, and their names are not being released because they are minors. 

At this time, it is unclear what charges the two minors may face. The stolen car was later returned to its owner.

From a Chamber County Sheriff's Office release:

Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports on January 7, 2023 at approximately 8:23 pm, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office 911 received a call in reference to a vehicle that had just been stolen at the McDonalds in Winnie. The victim advised she went inside to get a door dash order and two suspects got into her vehicle and fled westbound on Interstate 10 towards Houston. 

A Sheriff’s Office Deputy positioned himself on Interstate 10 and was able to locate the stolen vehicle where he then attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from the pursuing unit before entering the City of Mont Belvieu. Following the pursuit, two individuals abruptly stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, but were no match for the speed of our Deputies and Troopers. Both suspects were apprehended without incident.

The ensuing investigation revealed the driver to be a 16 year old juvenile and the passenger a 12 year old juvenile, both from Louisiana. Following the pursuit, the stolen vehicle was returned to the rightful owner.
