HOUSTON – Houston police have arrested and charged two men for the murder of 14-year-old Jose Meraz.

Meraz's body was found with multiple stab wounds on the 1800 block of Sherwood Forest near the Addicks Reservoir on Sept. 17. Police said Jose Grandados-Guevara, 22, and William Valladares, 17, struck Meraz with a machete, then stabbed him multiple times.

His body was spotted by a man walking his dog in the woods.

Meraz was a student at Stovall Middle School on Airline Drive, some 25 miles away from where his body was found. Police said Meraz lived in Houston with his cousins. His mother lives in Honduras.

After the news broke of Meraz's death, Stovall Principal Elsa Wright released a recorded message to parents saying, "We grieve the loss of one of our students. We express our sincerest condolences to the family."

Police have also charged Granados-Guevara with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for shooting a person in June.
