The short lives of Massail and Mirena Vega were filled with unimaginable trauma that the 6-week-olds could not verbalize, according to authorities.
Editor's note: Some of the details of this story are graphic and may be disturbing to readers.
"There should have been something done," great-aunt Sarah Calderon said back in April after the autopsy results were revealed.
She is the aunt to Calderon, the 21-year-old mother of the twins who died of blunt force trauma, an autopsy revealed.
Sarah Calderon said her niece deserves what's coming to her if the allegations are proven true.
"I don't care if you're blood or whatever," Sarah Calderon said. "Like, those babies didn't deserve to go through what they went through."
The twins were found unresponsive in October 2023 after police said Vega claimed he left them in his grandmother's care. It wasn't until April 2024 that charges were filed following a complete autopsy that showed bruises, abrasions, and contusions, both new and old. The twins were also severely malnourished and dehydrated, according to the autopsy.
During court on April 22, Angelina Calderon had a loud, emotional outburst as she tried to explain that Vega was the last one with the children.
"I don't care! You're making me look like I'm a bad person," she said in court. "I don't f*****g care. I was at work when they f*****g died."
Sarah Calderon said the family is split over whether to support her.
"At the end of the day, you're the mother and father," she said. "Y'all are the ones responsible for the babies' well-being."
