Texas murder suspect on the run for 2 years arrested in Iowa, Houston police say

Police said Kyle Andrew Coolack, 37, is charged with murder in the 2022 death of his brother Brad Henry Coolack, 35.

HOUSTON — A man in Iowa has been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of his brother in Houston after spending two years on the run, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said Kyle Andrew Coolack, 37, is charged with murder in the death of his brother Brad Henry Coolack, 35. The victim was killed in March 2022 at an apartment complex on West Greens Road.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department in Iowa, deputies received a call just after 7 a.m. on Sunday from a resident in Pomeroy who told them they had just kicked a man out of their house who had been staying with them.

The caller told deputies that the man, who was later identified as Kyle Coolack, had admitted to the people in the house that he was on the run for killing his brother. That is what led them to kick him out.

Coolack was found walking along Highway 4 in Pomeroy, Iowa a short time later, deputies said. They said he initially gave them a fake name before revealing his true identity.

That's when they discovered he had a warrant for his arrest out of Houston.

According to Houston police, Brad Coolack was shot multiple times on March 11, 2022. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police they heard an argument between two people followed by multiple gunshots. During the argument, the witness said they heard one of the men yell, " You slept with my wife."

Investigators later discovered that Brad had an affair with his sister-in-law while Kyle was deployed overseas. The couple is now divorced.

Police said Kyle Coolack was quickly identified as a person of interest. Following an in-depth investigation, homicide detectives charged him with murder on July 15, 2022, but they couldn't locate him.

On Sunday, HPD homicide detectives were informed that Coolack had been arrested in Iowa. He remains in the Calhoun County Jail, awaiting extradition to Harris County.

HPD said the investigation is ongoing.
