WASHINGTON — A Katy man will spend the next three years in prison for taking part in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in 2021.
Brian Scott Jackson, 48, pleaded guilty in February to several charges, including assault.
The FBI said he used a flagpole like a spear and threw it at officers while trying to storm the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
Brian Jackson was there with his brother, Adam Jackson, who also pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to 52 weekends in jail earlier this year.
Federal investigators said the brothers and another friend went to Washington together to protest Congress' certification of the Electoral College. They went to the "Stop the Steal" rally before marching to the Capitol.
Brian Jackson posted a video to his Facebook page showing his brother holding a police shield that Brian Jackson said they stole from a police officer. They then confronted a line of officers who were protecting the Tunnel of the Capitol.
Prosecutors said Adam Jackson rammed the defensive line with the stolen riot shield and Brian Jackson threw a long, tan-colored flagpole with an attached American flag like a spear at the officers.
After the day's events, Brian Jackson sent several messages about how proud he was to have taken part in the riot.
The Jacksons were arrested on June 7, 2022.
