HOUSTON – Suspects left some major damage after they smashed their way into a convenience store early Wednesday in Midtown.
According to the Houston Police Department, it happened around 4 a.m. at the Sunny Food Store located in the 300 block of Tuam near Bagby.
At that time, two sisters were doing some financial work inside the store when they heard a crash and saw a truck lodged in the front of the store.
As soon as it happened, one of them pushed the panic button, while the other called 911.
"I can't see anybody but I say hurry up hurry up they going to kill us…I was nervous shaking," Tammy Dang said.
The suspects failed to crash all the way through the front of the building due to steel bars covering the windows. It only took a couple of seconds for the hooded suspects to realize they had failed. They didn't even try to get inside the store.
The Ford F-250 truck was later towed away around 5 a.m., but it left quite a bit of damage.
Investigators believe these guys stole the truck from a residential street in Montrose a couple of blocks away earlier in the morning.
The owner of the truck was awoken by police knocking at his door. The owner says police told him the suspects used a screw driver to not only get in his truck, but also to start it. He says this is the third time his truck has been stolen.
"They said do I know where my truck is. I said it's out on the street. They said it's been damaged it's around the corner," Mark Kilworth said. "I know these people (store owners). They're good people. They don't deserve this I hope they can catch them… that's all I can say."
He says he has surveillance cameras at his house that would've captured a better view of these suspects, but they stopped working during last weekend's storms.
Investigators are now reviewing surveillance video in hopes of finding more clues that will help identify the suspects involved.
The victims said they have been on edge ever since a murder right across the street outside the nightclub F Bar a little over a month ago and a number of alarming crimes in the neighborhood.
