HOUSTON — A man accused of stealing a BBQ pit was shot and killed by a homeowner in Humble early Sunday morning, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
According to investigators, when the man left the home with the BBQ pit, the homeowner chased him in his own vehicle. He caught up and confronted the man he said stole his BBQ pit a short distance away from the home.
Gonzalez said the homeowner thought he saw the driver of the vehicle the suspect was in pull a gun, and "fearing for his safety," began to shoot the suspect.
Another person who was in the suspected thief's vehicle was not injured and is not facing any charges right now.
Gonzalez said the homeowner cooperated with investigators and provided a detailed statement about the incident.
According to Gonzalez, after the investigation, the case will be turned over to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and presented to a grand jury.
