Memorial HS teacher placed on administrative leave after allegations surface, Spring Branch ISD says

The teacher was placed on administrative leave due to allegations of inappropriate conduct with a former student.

HOUSTON — A teacher at Memorial High School was placed on administrative leave after he was accused of having inappropriate conduct with a former student, according to Spring Branch ISD officials.

The teacher has been employed at the school since 2019, according to the district.

"Spring Branch ISD and Memorial High School take seriously the proper boundaries that must remain in place between students and staff," Memorial High School Principal Lisa Weir said. "We remind our students and our employees of these boundaries and will continue to do so. We ask you to speak with your students about these proper boundaries as well and remind them to tell an adult if they ever have concerns."

Spring Branch ISD issued this statement: "I can confirm that the teacher was placed on administrative leave. As this is an active law enforcement investigation, I am not able to provide any additional information at this time."

Letter sent to parents

"Dear Memorial High School parents, students and staff,

"I am writing to inform you that the teacher has been placed on administrative leave due to allegations of inappropriate conduct with a former student. the teacher has been employed at Memorial High School since August 7, 2019.

"When allegations came to the attention of MHS administration and the district, the teacher was immediately placed on leave, and the Spring Branch ISD Police were immediately notified. This is a law enforcement matter, and an SBISD Police investigation is ongoing.

"Spring Branch ISD and Memorial High School take seriously the proper boundaries that must remain in place between students and staff. We remind our students and our employees of these boundaries and will continue to do so. We ask you to speak with your students about these proper boundaries as well and remind them to tell an adult if they ever have concerns.

"Spring Branch ISD’s highest priority will always be the safety and well-being of our students. We will never tolerate any actions by any employee who ever endangers, harms or takes advantage of a student.

"As always, we remind our families, students and staff to use the Anonymous Reporting link on our campus website, and to follow the district’s See Something. Say Something protocol to report any issues of concern regarding the safety and well-being of students and staff. We thank the individuals who brought forward concerns that led to this investigation.
