HOUSTON — Two teens were shot Wednesday in southeast Houston, according to police.
Houston Police Department officials said the shooting happened at a restaurant connected to a gas station off Cullen Boulevard between Reed Road and Airport Boulevard at about 5:15 p.m., but the incident actually began before that.
Investigators said two groups of teens got into a fight at another location and both groups ended up at the gas station. They said there were more than 10 people involved.
When a fight broke out at the gas station, at least one adult got involved, authorities said. The adult pulled out a gun and appeared to fire one shot, hitting a 15-year-old boy in the chest and a 13-year-old girl in the arm, HPD Asst. Chief Megan Howard.
Howard said the reason for the argument wasn't serious but didn't reveal what it was about.
"It's unfortunate that we have a situation where personal beef and differences escalated as it did. It seems, at this point, that it was wholly unnecessary and preventable," Howard said.
Investigators said the shooter left the scene in a vehicle and they have a pretty good idea of who he is. They said they wanted him to come forward to explain his side of the story. Howard said he appears to have some sort of connection with the teens who were involved in the initial fight. Police said they didn't believe it was necessary to release a suspect description on Wednesday night.
They said it appears as if he was the only person who pulled out a gun during the incident.
They said the shooting was caught on video, but they wouldn't be releasing it yet.
The 15-year-old boy was in critical condition and the 13-year-old girl was stable, Howard said. She said the girl was cooperating with investigators and they would talk to the boy when he got out of surgery.
