'She was my baby sister' | Devastated brother reacts to arrest in sister's killing at Houston liquor store

Michael Dewayne Wilkerson is charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Darrell Lynn Tikisha King on S. Post Oak near Beltway 8.

HOUSTON — Houston police arrested a suspect who they say shot and killed his ex-girlfriend at a southwest Houston liquor store earlier this week.

Michael Dewayne Wilkerson, 39, is charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence.

Darrell Lynn Tikisha King, 29, was gunned down on Nov. 12 while working at Ralston Discount Beverages on South Post Oak Road near Beltway 8.

Editor's note: The above video originally aired on Nov. 12.

When police responded to reports of a shooting at the liquor store around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, they found King with nine gunshot wounds, including four in the back. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD homicide detectives quickly identified Wilkerson as a suspect based on interviews and license plate photos. They say King had ended a relationship with him but they remained friends.

During a court appearance, the prosecutor said there's surveillance video showing Wilkerson following King into the store.

"It appears Ms. King was familiar with the gentleman walking behind her," the prosecutor said.

Wilkerson tried to hide his face and move the surveillance camera but he could be seen shooting the victim, according to the prosecutor.

Investigators said when Wilkerson left the store, he tossed the murder weapon in a bayou and disposed of his clothing on the roadside.

The Southwest Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team arrested Wilkerson on Wednesday. They say he later confessed and claimed King had disrespected him.

'She was my baby sister'

King's brother was at work when his mother called him screaming, so he rushed to the liquor store.

"They wouldn’t let me see her inside," Terrence Washington told us. "Very devastating."

Washington said Wilkerson couldn't accept the breakup.

"I want the world to see his face, how much of a coward he is," Washington said. "You killed a young, innocent woman because you can't control your emotions ...

The grieving brother said he was supposed to celebrate his birthday with King on Thursday night.

"She was like my first love, my baby sister. I took care of her like she was my own daughter. I always protected her," Washington said. "She was supposed to be here today for my birthday. But she is not here physically she is here spiritually."

He believes the killing was premeditated and wants the maximum punishment.

"He deserves the death penalty ... for someone’s child to be taken away from them," Washington said. "He should have no trial, just send him straight to Huntsville."

Wilkerson is being held without bond on the capital murder charge and a $250,000 bond for the tampering charge.
