Police investigating shooting on METRO bus in Asiatown, officials say

METRO officials said someone fired a gun inside the bus, but no one was hit.

HOUSTON — A man is in custody following a shooting on a Houston METRO bus in the Asiatown area Wednesday morning, according to METRO officials.

This happened at about 7:30 a.m. on South Gessner near Bellaire Boulevard.

METRO officials said a man in his 80s fired a handgun at least once inside of the bus. No passengers were injured in the shooting.

“The fast decision-making process of our bus operator, she was quickly able to open the door and let all of the passengers out so no one was injured as a result of this incident,” METRO Police Chief Ban Tien said. “We were able to seamlessly arrive within minutes to contain the situation.”

There was some damage to the bus after investigators said the suspect appeared to have shot into the floorboard of the bus.

Investigators are combing through surveillance video on the bus to learn more about exactly what happened.

The reason for the shooting remains under investigation.
