HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — An armed man was shot by deputies during a chase near Beltway 8 in northeast Harris County Thursday afternoon, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
This happened just after 1 p.m. on Wilson Road near the feeder road.
The sheriff said members of the Violent Persons Task Force were conducting a warrant service on a 33-year-old man who was wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon when the suspect ran from police and a police chase began.
Gonzalez said the suspect stopped in a parking lot between Mesa Road and Wilson Road, got out of the vehicle with a rifle and ran on foot.
Gonzalez said a task force member opened fire and shot the suspect. The suspect was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, the sheriff said. No deputies were injured.
There was a large law enforcement presence and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
