2 vehicles hit by gunfire in apparent road rage shooting near 288 and Holly Hall, HPD says

A woman in the Ford SUV was cut by shattered glass but no one was shot in either vehicle, according to the Houston Police Department.

HOUSTON — Three people avoided serious injuries after an apparent road rage shooting Thursday afternoon on Highway 288 near Holly Hall, the Houston Police Department said.

One of them was an off-duty officer whose truck was struck by a bullet.

It started around 1 p.m. when a woman driving a Ford SUV told police that someone cut her off on 288 and then started shooting.

“Somebody in a dark sedan fired several shots at the Ford here behind me, one to two shots struck that Ford,” HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said. “There were two people inside, both adults.”

The woman had cuts to her face from shattered glass but neither one of them was hit by gunfire.

“The victim in there is very lucky. I don’t know how the bullet went in the front and came out the back without striking her,” Crowson said. “She’s very lucky. It’s a very dangerous incident today.”

A woman driving this Ford SUV told police that someone cut her off on 288 near Holly Hall and then started shooting. The bullet missed her.

The off-duty officer was apparently caught in the crossfire and also escaped injury.

The shooter in the dark sedan got away.

“Right now, it looks like it’s some type of road rage. The driver of the Ford says that the dark sedan cut her off or something along that line," Crowson said. "We’re trying to get that all sorted out.”

Officers from two nearby HPD substations responded to the shooting. They're hoping witnesses or surveillance cameras will help lead them to the gunman.
