HOUSTON — Federal investigators were looking for a man who vandalized a mosque in Houston in August.

The FBI Houston Field Office released photos Monday of a man and a vehicle wanted in connection with the damage to Baitus Samee Mosque at 1333 Spears Road in Houston.

The FBI said a man parked a distinctive car at a nearby gas station, walked into the mosque compound, then spray painted an offensive phrase in black paint. The message was in the Urdu language. Urdu is primarily used in South Asia, and is the national language of Pakistan, alongside English.

The incident happened on Aug. 14, 2024 at 2:37 p.m.

The Baitus Samee Mosque is a Ahmadi Muslim mosque.

The photos show a man wearing a red beanie, a long-sleeve plaid shirt and dark pants. The car is a silver Honda Accord with damage to the front bumper, hood and passenger rear quarter panel.

The FBI offered a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the man.
