BAYTOWN, Texas — One of the suspects recently arrested in the 2021 shooting death of a Baytown woman who was seven months pregnant faced a judge on Friday.
Deavonte Williams, 25, is one of four alleged gang members now charged with murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Domonique Million.
The victim was inside her apartment on Garth Road when police said she was shot in the head by a stray bullet from a nearby shootout between gang members. Million was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Doctors weren't able to save her but they successfully delivered her baby daughter.
Baytown police quickly identified persons of interest but said it took countless hours to build a solid case that led to murder charges against all four men three years later.
BPD, SWAT officers, K9 units and ATF agents arrested Williams and Aaron Heads Jr., 22, in Baytown. Larry Harris, 25, is already serving time for unrelated aggravated robbery and manslaughter convictions. Zaviay Turner, 22, is also in TDCJ for aggravated robbery.
“Our dedicated team has worked tirelessly over the past three years to ensure justice is served," Baytown Police Chief John Stringer said. "The tragic loss of Domonique Million emphasizes the seriousness of our work, and we will continue to pursue every lead to hold those responsible accountable.”
Stringer said they built the case with BPD's in-house digital forensics unit, a national ballistics database and fresh interviews that provided crucial information.
Million's mother is raising her granddaughter who will never know her birth mother. She's now 3 years old.
"It’s perfect that she survived," one neighbor told us. "I hope they have happiness and I pray for the kids that was in the home and everything."
Baytown police originally named five persons of interest in Million's death. We are working to learn the status of the fifth man named.
The shooting happened at the same complex where the highly publicized police-involved shooting death of Pamela Turner occurred in May 2019.
