HOUSTON — A Houston police officer is recovering after being dragged during a traffic stop.
The officer and her partner were also involved in a crash following a chase. Both are reported to be okay and are being treated for minor injuries at the hospital.
Houston police said it all started when they pulled over a car that had just run a red light. Just before 1 a.m. early Friday, two officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Richmond Avenue.
HPD said that while one officer was running the driver’s license, the other officer asked the driver to step out of the car after smelling marijuana.
The suspect refused, and a struggle ensued. HPD said the situation escalated when the officer was dragged as the suspect tried to get away.
HPD said her clothing got caught in the car door. Here’s what happened after she was dragged:
“She gets dragged a little ways. Goes down but immediately gets back up. Her and her partner get back in the vehicle, police vehicle she was driving. They make it over to Woodland park in this direction and they lose control and hit this tree,” HPD Lt. Willkens said.
Eventually, the suspect was found and taken into custody.
