SAN ANTONIO -- 15-year-old Natalie Chavez's family said they've returned to the scene of where her body was discovered, under a bridge at Vera Cruz Street and Nuevo Leon Street, every day since it was found.
And they said they are relieved to hear that police are looking at social media for clues in the case.
Viewers alerted KENS 5 on Monday morning of the postings. One of them reads: "I know who did aint sayin nun tho."
But police hope that anyone with information won't hide behind social media and will come forward with information on who killed Chavez. "It's truly a heart breaking case," said Javier Salazar, San Antonio Police Department. "The fact that the tips are pouring in through Crimestoppers and social media. We appreciate them all and we do want people to keep them coming."
"Thank you for everything you are doing," Juan Chavez, Natalie's biological father, said. "But call the cops," he pleaded.
Juan Chavez continues to return to the bridge where her body was dumped, and said he hopes that any tip, even from Facebook or Twitter, will lead to his teenage daughter's killer. "My eyes are tired from crying," said Juan Chavez.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed that Natalie Chavez's cause of death was asphyxia. And police have ruled this as a homicide.
Meantime, Juan Chavez has this message for the killer: "You were bad enough to kill her under a bridge in the dark, be bad enough to say I killed her."
While the family is looking for closure, they are also trying to raise funds for a proper funeral for the slain teen. They are holding a barbecue-and-menudo sale on Friday at 10 a.m. at 1401 Southwest 19th Street, and Saturday at the VFW Westside Post at 3001 Guadalupe Street at 9 a.m.
