Police chase that started in Bellaire ends with manhunt in Meyerland neighborhood

The suspect crashed into a truck and fence before jumping out of his vehicle and running through Meyerland yards where he was finally caught.

HOUSTON — A suspect is in custody after leading police on a chase that led to some tense moments and a brief manhunt in a Meyerland neighborhood.

Bellaire police said the incident started on 610 West Loop South Sunday afternoon when a speeding driver did not stop when officers tried to pull him over.

As the suspect sped away, he hit a truck and eventually led police to the Meyerland area near Jason Street and Endicott Lane. He then crashed into a fence and knocked it down before jumping out of the vehicle and running through yards.

“I told my son, ‘keep inside, keep the dog inside,’” Elizabeth Ray, a neighbor, said.

Bellaire Police confirmed to KHOU 11 News that an officer deployed a Taser to try to stop the suspect but missed, hitting a fence.

“Then I noticed this taser like, ‘Wow,’” Ray recalled. “So he was here and they had him blocked in these two streets.”

A brief search for the suspect ended when a K9 unit found him hiding between two homes on Imogene Street.

The Bellaire Police Department was the arresting agency, but multiple other agencies were on the scene.

No one was hurt, according to police.
