PEARLAND, Texas — Pearland police are investigating the shooting death of a 6-year-old.
Officers found the child dead after responding to a call of a gunshot wound at an apartment complex on Shadow Creek Parkway. Police said they couldn't tell if the child got a hold of the gun or if their father pulled the trigger.
"That's what we're trying to figure out," Chad Rogers with the Pearland Police Department said. "Our investigators are very thorough. Obviously, a tragic loss of a child. It's going to be a very rough thorough investigation. There's a lot to be done still with regard to the autopsy, whenever that happens. So as of right now, this is still too early to tell exactly what happened to that child.
No charges have been filed directly to the child's death, but their father was taken into custody on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.
An investigation is ongoing.
