Houston police searching for suspect in deadly machete attack at northside convenience store

Alvaro Lovos, 52, is accused of stabbing Charlie Wilson, 67, 25 times with a machete, focusing on areas including his head and neck.

HOUSTON — Houston police are actively searching for a man accused of killing another man with a machete at a northside convenience store.

Officials said that when Alvaro Lovos, 52, was initially confronted, he denied any involvement in the incident. Lovos was later identified after surveillance footage captured him repeatedly attacking his neighbor, 67-year-old Charlie Wilson, with a machete.

New court documents now reveal additional details about Wilson’s gruesome murder.

Lovos is accused of stabbing Wilson 25 times with a machete, focusing on areas including his head and neck. Allegedly, 15 of those strikes occurred after Wilson had already stopped moving.

“We actually got the notification from some of the family members a little bit after 11 because they're the ones that actually found him,” police said.

A clerk at a nearby convenience store told police they had reviewed surveillance video and believed Lovos was the suspect.

When an officer confronted Lovos, he presented a passport from El Salvador and claimed he had only heard yelling and seen two people walking away from Wilson’s body. At that time, Lovos was not arrested.

After confirming through surveillance footage that Lovos was the person wielding the machete, police filed a murder charge against him.

Investigators have not yet released a possible motive for the attack. They are urging the public to contact the police if they see Lovos or have any information on his whereabouts.
