Neighbors remember man shot at random, killed

"He was a good friend," said Mateo Trevino, a neighbor who knew Pak Ho.

HOUSTON – Police are asking for help catching a man randomly shooting pedestrians in southwest Houston and Missouri City. In one week, the gunman attacked five people, wounding three and killing a fourth.

Pak Ho, 34, was buried Tuesday.

Neighbors and friends honored him with flowers and a cross planted where Ho died in the 8300 block of Twin Hills Drive.

"He was a good friend," said Mateo Trevino, a neighbor who knew Pak Ho.

"He (was) the type of man (who would) come to you and ask how you are doing," Tristan Trevino, another neighbor, said.

"(Ho) treated everybody with respect," said Pedro Trevino, another neighbor. "(He) never harmed anybody."

Houston and Missouri City Police detectives released a sketch of the man accused of killing Ho and hurting others. They said the gunman shot at random without making demands.

It started last week. Ho was ambushed walking near Sharpstown. Three hours later, gunfire wounded another man in southeast Houston. The next day, a third victim was shot at a bus stop on Bissonett near Gessner. Then, the same gunman shot a fourth person in Missouri City Monday.

A fifth person was also attacked. However, in that case the shooter's gun jammed.

Police shared an image pulled from surveillance video that shows the shooter's Jeep Cherokee. It's black or another dark color. Detectives believe it is a 1999 or early 2000's model.

Investigators say all five victims were walking alone when attacked.

"I would not walk alone if it were me," said Sgt. Tommy Ruland of the Houston Police Department. "I would walk in groups. Beware of your surroundings."

Ho's mother was too shaken to speak publicly. Close friends and neighbors are scared too.

"(We are) very afraid," Pedro Trevino said. "My kids and everybody on this block."

So, they are anxious to see the shooter caught.
