Woman's car stolen from her northwest Harris County driveway

Michelle Hyman moved to northwest Harris County with her three children in search of a fresh start. A year later, her car was stolen out of her driveway.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Michelle Hyman said she was looking for a fresh start when she and her three kids moved into a home in northwest Harris County about a year ago.

"It's just quiet. We have had no problems in the last year," Hyman said.

That was until about two weeks ago when she walked outside and noticed something wasn't right.

"I stopped for a second because I don't like the panic. I kind of looked around, and I said, my car is not here, and I ran inside just hysterical really," Hyman said in an interview with KHOU 11 News.

Hyman said a neighbor's surveillance camera, showed a white SUV pull up just after 1 a.m. on Oct. 8. In the video,  you see a few people get out.

"Then, initially, the kids run up to my car," Hyman said.

She added that another neighbor's camera showed what happened moments later: The same white SUV, followed by Hyman's car, was seen leaving the neighborhood.

Hyman said she thinks she knows who took her car. She said there's been a video on social media that's since been deleted, that shows the crime spree as it was happening. Police did eventually find her car two days later and 28 miles away in a neighboring town.

"The car was totaled, but there was no arrest made. It was just a frustration that I still feel," Hyman said.

Based on her coverage and what happened, Hyman said insurance isn't paying a penny.

"Unfortunately, as a single mom, you know, sometimes you pick between feeding your kids and having full coverage on your car. At the time, I just had liability," Hyman said.

The incident left the mother of three desperate to find a replacement she can afford. If you would like to help her purchase a new car, you can donate at this link.

Hyman said that for now, a friend is letting her use their truck until she can save up enough money for a new vehicle.

Investigators are hoping to find the thieves. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
