Deputy shoots, kills knife-wielding man during family violence incident, MCSO says

Authorities said Kedrayn Blueford, 21, was reportedly experiencing a manic episode, which is why his family called the sheriff's office.

PORTER, Texas — A man is dead after being shot by a Montogomery County Sheriff's Office deputy Friday evening, according to authorities.

It happened outside a home on Jordan Pond Ridge in the Highlands Subdivision in Porter.

Around 8:20 p.m., deputies responded to a family violence incident involving a man armed with a knife. When they got there, the sheriff's office said the man, identified as 21-year-old Kedrayn Blueford, refused all verbal commands to drop the knife,

Authorities said Blueford was known to have a history of mental health issues and was reportedly experiencing a manic episode, which is why his family called the sheriff's office.

Despite trying to de-escalate the situation, Blueford reportedly went towards deputies with the knife.

The deputy fired his gun and hit Blueford, who died at the scene.

No deputies were injured.

This shooting is under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, along with Crime Scene Investigators, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers.

Montogomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson issued the following statement:

"Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the individual involved in tonight’s tragic incident. We are profoundly saddened by this loss and understand the immense grief and pain the family is experiencing. Our thoughts are also with our Deputies, who are deeply affected by this unfortunate event.”
