MISSOURI CITY, Texas — Bond was set at $2 million for the man accused in a deadly shooting at a United States Postal Service facility in Missouri City earlier this week.
Derrick Deon Lott Jr. is charged with murder in connection with Monday's deadly shooting at the processing center on US 90.
The victim was identified as 35-year-old Kevin J. Hines. A motive for the shooting remains unclear. Both Lott Jr. and Hines were employees at the facility.
“This was a tragic and senseless act of violence,” U.S. Postal Inspection Service Acting Inspector in Charge Mona Hernandez said. “Our employees deserve to feel safe when they come to work. Postal inspectors are working tirelessly to ensure justice is served on behalf of Kevin Hines, his family, and all of the employees who work in this facility.”
According to court records, at the time of the shooting, Lott Jr. was out on bond for the alleged assault of a peace officer earlier this year.

Employees were evacuated after the shot was fired and were reportedly told the evacuation was due to an active shooter.
Investigators said they eventually learned that Hines had been shot in the back of the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A USPS assistant inspector with the Houston division said their top priority was making sure no one else got hurt.
"That individual is in custody and that community is safe," Assistant Inspector Dana Carter said. "Part of our partnership with (the Missouri City Police Department) is not only conducting a very thorough investigation but making sure we protect the community at large, as well as our employees."
Facility operations were shut down Tuesday due to the shooting.
