MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — More information is being revealed about the man accused of killing a Conroe pediatrician last weekend although a true motive remains unclear.
Dr. Talat Jehan Khan was sitting at a picnic table at her Conroe apartment complex when police said 24-year-old Miles Joseph Fridrich stabbed her multiple times on Saturday. Witnesses said he came out of nowhere.
Who is Fridrich?
According to records, Fridrich has a Dallas address, although it's unclear how long he has been in the Houston area.
He's been charged with first-degree murder and was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
According to his criminal history, Fridrich had been previously arrested in Montgomery County and Travis County. Charges in those cases were later dismissed.
Local politician statement
"The death of my fellow doctor in Conroe leaves me heartbroken. Dr. Khan was a daughter, a sister, a mother of two and the caregiver to many. Her death is a great loss to the community," Rep. Suleman Lalani said.
Khan practiced at Texas Children’s Pediatrics Conroe. She leaves behind a son and daughter.
Lalani, also a doctor, represents the Sugar Land area.
"I have been in touch with the family of Dr. Khan and am working with Chairman Will Metcalf, Representative for House District 16 (Conroe) and we are in contact with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office and the Conroe Police Department monitoring the situation. We stand ready to offer any assistance necessary. I am deeply saddened by this senseless attack. I also understand that world events make this feel even more personal to our community. I ask that during this difficult time, we all show more kindness and more be more peaceful with one another," Lalani said.
The Southwest Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League and the Council on American-Islamis Relations released similar statements in the wake of the crime. Both groups are calling on law enforcement to figure out if Khan's death was a hate crime.
