Man arrested in deadly ambush of co-worker outside his home near Cypress, Harris County sheriff says

The victim worked for a company near the airport for 30 years, the sheriff said.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man was arrested in connection with the deadly ambush of a co-worker who was found shot to death in his driveway near the Cypress area earlier this month, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The victim was identified as Fidencio Romero, 50, the sheriff said. This happened just after 3 a.m. on May 1 outside of a home on Wimbledon Oaks in a neighborhood just north of Highway 290.

The sheriff said Romero's wife reported that he had just left the house for work when she heard multiple gunshots from outside the home. When she went outside, she discovered her husband inside his vehicle shot multiple times.

The sheriff said Kevin Brown, 25, is charged with murder. Brown was said to be a co-worker of Romero’s.

Investigators believe Brown had a disagreement with Romero at work in the days before the shooting occurred. Romero worked for a company near the airport for 30 years, the sheriff said.

The sheriff said 13 shots were fired from “an AK-47 type weapon.”

“This is yet another tragic, senseless act of violence,” the sheriff said.

The sheriff's office said it is currently investigating other possible shootings which Brown may be linked to.

Anyone with information about Brown's involvement with any other shootings is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers of Houston.
