HOUSTON -- A man has been charged in Wednesday's crash that killed a woman in north Houston, police said.

The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. in the 600 block of E. Crosstimbers.

The suspect, 31-year-old Raul Saenz III, is charged with two counts of intoxicated assault in the 351st State District Court.

Police said Saenz was driving a silver Chevrolet Aveo at a high rate of speed northbound on Helmers when he ran a red light at E. Crosstimbers. The suspect struck a van, flipping it onto its side.

Passengers in the small Chevrolet were thrown from the vehicle, including a 47-year-old woman who died the following day.

Two people in the van were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect was determined to be intoxicated and he was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
