HOUSTON — Police arrested a man after stripping naked on a car and assaulting multiple employees at a nearby Walgreens.
Omar Sanchez, 26, is still recovering in a hospital from a suspected drug-fueled Sunday morning where police say he terrorized the block.
It started when Sanchez walked into the Walgreens off West Little York Road in Northwest Houston and asked to use a phone. Employees told officers that Sanchez seemed to be talking to himself and was acting erratic.
When they denied him access to a phone, that’s when they say Sanchez allegedly grabbed an employee by the neck, placing them in a chokehold. Another employee intervened and that’s when police said Sanchez stabbed the employee in the leg with a pen.
Just moments later, a customer attempted to break up the fight, but officers say Sanchez bit that person in the ankle.
Sanchez ran out of the Walgreens and into oncoming traffic where he started undressing on top of an SUV.
That’s when a woman, who will only go by Ericka, says she couldn’t help but capture the moment on her phone.
“Immediate reaction was I have to record this. There’s already help on the way. There’s already people assisting, no one had their camera out,” said Ericka.
Ericka says she was on her way to get coffee in the morning when it all happened.
She describes hearing Sanchez tell officers he was high and how he had been in a fight with someone else prior to getting naked.
As for the driver, Ericka says she was expressionless and probably still in shock.
Say you were behind the wheel, officers tell us the best advice is to lock your door, do not engage the suspect and call police.
If it’s safe, wait for the cops, otherwise escape if you can.
Sanchez has been charged with two counts of assault with bodily injury, one count of criminal mischief and one count of unlawful restraint.
Walgreens representatives say they decline to comment at this time, as this is still an active investigation.
