HOUSTON — A 26-year-old woman was shot and killed on Thursday night in northeast Houston, according to police.
They said it happened at a house on Locksley Road, which is in a neighborhood near the intersection of Wayside Drive and Tidwell Road.
Officials said the woman and her new boyfriend were throwing a birthday party for one of the woman's children. Her children were ages 4 and 6 years old.
According to investigators, a little after 8:30 p.m., the father of the child showed up and an argument broke out at the front door.
That's when they said shots were fired and the woman was struck. She died at the scene.
A neighbor who lives right next door told KHOU 11 News she heard what the father was screaming when he showed up.
“'Let’s end this. Let’s end this now,’” Felicia Adams, a neighbor, said.
This was yelled out moments after Adams said she saw two cars pull into the driveway.
“My heart dropped. I was terrified. It was loud. It sounded like it was going into my home,” the neighbor said.
She saw one man fire five shots into the townhouse next door.
“I immediately told the kids to get down. I got down and called 911 right away,” Adams said.
Adams said she could see everything from her upstairs window.
“I stayed in the corner watching what was going on and I think I made eye contact with him,” she said.
Houston police said they had responded to child custody calls at the house in the past.
“We’ve had calls here in the past with disturbances over child custody,” HPD Lt. Wilkins said. “Again, we don’t know exactly what the disturbance is today. We just know one of the kids had a birthday.
Investigators said the shooter left the scene in a vehicle described as a white Tahoe.
They advised the shooter to turn himself in to explain his side of the story.
