Escaped League City inmate back in custody after 'extensive search,' police say

Police said 37-year-old Desmond Taylor was arrested on August 9 for assault family violence with previous convictions and was being held at the League City Jail.

LEAGUE CITY, Texas — The League City Police Department says an inmate who escaped from a hospital early Sunday morning is back in custody after an "extensive search."

Police said 37-year-old Desmond Taylor was arrested on Friday, August 9, for assault family violence with previous convictions and was being held at the League City Jail on a $200,000 bond. After he was booked into the jail, Taylor reportedly made a medical complaint and was taken to UTMB Victory Lakes.

Just after 1 a.m., police say Taylor escaped police custody from his hospital room. Around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, police said Taylor had been taken back into custody. He was found on West League City Parkway near the Gulf Freeway.

"Thank you to Patrol, the LCPD Community Impact Unit and the surrounding agencies who assisted for working tirelessly to locate Taylor quickly and safely," League City police said in a release.
