KLEIN, Texas — A Houston-area high school student was expelled Tuesday after being caught with a loaded handgun on campus.
Klein Cain High School officials sent a letter to families to let them know what happened.
In the letter, school officials said they got a tip that the student had a gun. They said they acted immediately and found and detained the student.
The student was "emergency expelled from the district and is facing felony charges," the letter said.

"We are writing to inform you that a loaded handgun was recovered at school today. Klein ISD Police and School Administrators received an anonymous tip and immediately acted on the information, locating and detaining the student. All students and staff are safe at this time.
"The student has been emergency expelled from the district and is facing felony charges. The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities, and we will continue to work closely with local law enforcement and school administration to ensure a secure learning environment for all.
"Our Klein ISD Police officers stationed full-time at Klein Cain will continue to be extra visible at the school, along with additional officers this week. If you weren't already aware, full-time Klein ISD police officers are on campus every day, diligently working to ensure the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
