A beloved coach from KIPP Academy was found murdered inside his home over the weekend, and the suspect is on the loose.
Police are searching for clues while friends of Kevin Roman, 39, hope for justice.
Roman hadn’t been seen in several days. Police were called to his Sunnyside home on Saturday to perform a welfare check. That’s when they found Roman’s body.
Police say Roman had been shot multiple times. He was the newly hired flag football coach at KIPP Academy and had only been there for a couple of weeks. He spent the last 10 years at Clear Lake Christian Academy where he taught physical education and coached football.
One of his former co-workers told us he couldn’t believe the news.
“Kevin was the most kind, giving person we had at the school,” said Clear Lake Christian Academy coach Robert Smith. “He just gave, gave and gave. That’s why this murder is totally senseless, because he was a giving person.”
There is still no clue on a motive, but Roman’s gray Jeep Grand Cherokee is missing from his home. Police are trying to find that vehicle at this time.
KIPP Academy released the following statement:
Over the weekend, we received information that our new flag football coach had passed away. Although he had only been at KIPP Academy for a few weeks, he took the time to get to know our students and school.
We have had counseling available on campus today and will continue to provide support. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.
