LAKE JACKSON, Texas — Kane Williams celebrated his 26th birthday earlier this month in Lake Jackson. Five days later, he was dead.
According to the Lake Jackson Police Department, Williams was working at Enterprise Rent-a-Car on Oyster Creek Drive when he was stabbed to death early the morning of Monday, June 17.
They got a call that a man was sleeping in front of a business but when they arrived around 6 a.m., they found Williams' body on the sidewalk.
Police said their main suspect was a man from South Carolina named Bear Norton. He was being held on an unrelated burglary charge but hasn't been charged in connection with Williams' death. His bond was set at $400,000.
Investigators think Norton has only been in Lake Jackson for a short time and there's no evidence that he and Williams knew each other.
The motive in the case is under investigation.
Williams' family said he'd recently moved into this first apartment and was looking forward to a new chapter.
"He was an amazing young man who had smiles and hugs for everyone. He loved Jesus and always brought a kind energy wherever he went," the victim's aunt posted on a GoFundMe.com account. "This tragic loss is devastating to our family."
One of five children, Williams loved gaming with his brothers, skateboarding and writing music.
Family members said Williams was always ready to help anyone in need and "left a beautiful legacy of love and kindness."
He was a graduate of Brazoswood High School.
