Jugging suspects in custody after chase ends near Med Center, police say

Two Houston police officers were injured when they got in a crash during the chase. They're expected to be OK.

HOUSTON — Two jugging suspects were taken into custody Friday after leading police on a chase.

According to police, the incident started around 3:30 p.m. in the South Park area of southeast Houston. Police said a concerned citizen called and said he thought he was being followed after he went to the bank. When officers tried to stop the following vehicle, the pursuit began.

They said the suspect vehicle led them on a chase through several residential streets before getting on and off freeways. Police used a helicopter to follow the suspects.

The chase ended when police used a PIT maneuver and the suspect vehicle crashed near the intersection of Old Spanish Trail and Greenbriar. Police said the vehicle appeared to be a rental.

Two other vehicles were hit in the chase. One of the other drivers that was involved said she was heading home for the weekend when she got hit and feels lucky because the suspect vehicle was going fast when it hit her.

"All of a sudden, a car out of nowhere just hit me. In the very front -- it barely missed the driver side," Hannah Coker said. "He was going 70-80 miles per hour. I looked behind me to see what was going on and his car spun out of control. It went in circles. (He) Went and took off on foot -- (police) got out and started chasing him."

Two Houston police officers were injured when they got in a crash during the chase. It's unclear if they crashed into the suspect's vehicle or another vehicle. Both are expected to be OK.

Investigators said they think the suspects could be involved in other juggings across the city.

"This vehicle and these suspects might be involved in other jugging incidents in the city. Will be following up on that," HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said.

Authorities said the suspects could be facing multiple charges.
