HOUSTON — An 18-year-old man is back in Houston and facing a murder charge in connection with a 2023 killing.
Jonathan Hernandez is charged with capital murder, according to the Houston Police Department.
He was arrested in Mexico last week and brought back to Texas. He's being held at the Harris County Jail.
Hernandez is accused of killing Luis Deleon, 19.
Investigators found out that Deleon was last seen at a southeast Houston location along Navigation Boulevard near Lockwood Drive before he went missing. He was reported missing on April 4, 2023.
On April 20, 2023, Texas EquuSearch volunteers found human remains under wood pallets near railroad tracks on Lee Street just west of the Eastex Freeway in north Houston, about 4 miles away from where Deleon was last seen. The remains were identified as those of Deleon, who had been shot multiple times.
HPD investigators identified Hernandez as the main suspect in the case and found out that he shot and killed Deleon during a robbery.
Hernandez was charged on April 27, 2023, but wasn't arrested until nearly a year later. He was arrested by members of the U.S Marshals Office's Fugitive Task Force and Mexican authorities on Feb. 15.
