HOUSTON — Houston police are searching for two men accused of shooting and robbing a man during a drug deal near downtown Monday night.
Initially, the victim told investigators that he was meeting up with the men to sell jewelry. However, he later admitted to investigators that he was going to sell the gunmen a large amount of narcotics.
It happened just before 9 p.m. on Navigation Boulevard near South Jensen Drive. Police said a man in his 30s met with two other men in a parking lot to make the sale. When he approached the men, they jumped him and began beating him. The victim resisted, fought back, and was then shot at multiple times by the men.
Police said the men robbed the victim and then ran off. It is unknown what exact items the suspects got away with. The only description police have of the suspects is that they are two men wearing hoodies.
According to police, the victim possibly shot his gun, but there is no evidence to indicate that the suspects were hit. The victim was taken to a hospital. He is in critical condition, but stable.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact HPD's robbery division or Crime Stoppers.
Police said that if you sell items online and plan to meet up with a stranger, there are precautions you should always take for your safety.
First, meet during the day and not at night. You should also bring someone with you, so you aren’t alone. Third, it’s important to pick a good meeting place. Avoid inviting people to your home. Instead, police said you can always use the police department as a meet-up spot.
