'Somebody knows something': Grandfather of Jarvon Coles pleads for answers 4 months after deadly shooting

The Northshore High School athlete was gunned down outside a house party in Humble on March 9 and his killer is still on the loose.

HOUSTON — A grieving family is pleading for answers four months after a Northshore standout athlete was gunned down at a party north of Houston.

The grandfather of Jarvon Coles remains determined to continue the fight for justice while keeping his grandson's memory alive.

"The coward who killed my grandson, who murdered my grandson, they need to be caught," Braxton Coles told us.

The 18-year-old was shot to death in the backyard of a house party in Humble back on March 9. Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators said someone pulled up nearby in a car and randomly started shooting toward the crowd. Jarvon was the only one hit.

His family and investigators are still hoping for tips that lead to the killer.

"Our plea is still the same. It was too many people there to not know anything. Somebody knows something," Braxton said. "Somebody saw something. Somebody heard something. Somebody was told something."

The grief is still fresh but it fuels his mission to honor Jarvon's legacy through a foundation called Crash Out for Cause. The nonprofit launched at Jarvon's funeral aims to raise awareness about the epidemic of gun violence.

"Busy, busy, busy. It really doesn’t let me mope and feel sorry for myself," Braxton said.

The foundation also provides funds to area youth sports groups to sponsor young players who wouldn't otherwise be able to pay.

"We haven’t forgotten, and through tragedy, good things can happen," Braxton said.

He said a bench dedication in Jarvon's memory is tentatively set to happen early next month at Northshore Park.

If you have any information about this case, call the Harris County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
