'It's time to go' | Victim's sister witnesses execution of man linked to 5 Houston murders, including twin teens

Garcia Glen White, 61, was convicted of killing twin 16-year-old sisters in 1989. He's also blamed for 3 other deaths, including Dewante Washington's sister.

HOUSTON, Texas — A former college football player convicted of killing twin sisters in Houston nearly 35 years ago was executed Tuesday night in Huntsville, Texas.

Garcia White was sentenced to death for the December 1989 murders of Annette and Bernette Edwards. The twin girls and their mother, Bonita Edwards, were stabbed to death in their Houston apartment.

Around the same time, 27-year-old Greta Williams was found beaten to death and rolled up in a carpet inside a vacant house.

"She was beaten beyond recognition,” her sister, Dewanta Washington, told us in an interview you'll see only on KHOU 11.

The cases went unsolved until six years later when White was charged with killing a convenience store owner during a robbery. After his arrest, he confessed to the other four killings.

Washington has fond memories of her sister who died shortly after moving from Chicago to Houston.

“We did everything together,” Washington told us. "Ride bikes, play jump rope, I mean everything."

She showed us a box containing Greta’s ashes that she plans to spread back home in Chicago once her sister's killer is finally dead.

"Yeah, it’s very emotional, it was a very long time before I talked about it," said Washington.  "And I’m getting teared up now.”

Washington and her siblings were in Huntsville to witness White's execution.

"It’s a long time coming,” she said. "Hopefully he’s made peace with his maker ... It’s time to go.”

White apologized before he became the fifth inmate put to death in Texas this year.
