HOUSTON — Houston Police are looking for a man who robbed a store and got into a SWAT standoff at an apartment complex in west Houston on Monday.
The man reportedly robbed a store on Westheimer Road around 9:30 a.m. Police said he held a cashier at gunpoint and forced her to open a safe then took off in a car with a large amount of cash.
Officers were able to track him down and he was seen running into an apartment at the City Chase Apartment complex.
HPD's SWAT and Hostage Negotiations Teams tried to get the man to surrender but he was believed to have barricaded himself inside the home.
After several hours, officers forced entry and found the apartment to be empty.
A spokesman said during a press conference Monday afternoon, it appeared the suspect escaped out a back door and jumped off the balcony during the standoff.
Police have not yet released his name but they say he has a felony warrant out of Fort Bend County.
Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspect is asked to contact Houston Police immediately.
